Lighting Design

The following are a few examples of light fixtures that I've designed over the years. I became interested in lighting design when I first began working in architecture.  They allowed me to design something small that I could assemble myself with very few tools.  Similar to architecture they are a blend of sculpture and function.
The fixtures have a wood skeletal frame and use a non woven fabric for the shades.  Due to the intricacy of the design the parts of the skeletal frame were cut using a laser cutter.  All of the parts for the frame are drawn in Autocad.  A DXF file was then emailed to the cutter and the parts were mailed to me after they were cut. Influences for the lamps range from Japanese lanterns and window louvers to fish and super heroes.
